Today is one of those joyous days, where there is a perfectly good excuse to go out and buy new music… it’s Record Store Day! Our record store of choice today was Rockaway Records. So here’s what came home and has since been spinning on our beloved turntable.
Two Record Store Day limited release “45s:
Five by Five – The Rolling Stones
Animal X – Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
these four gems…
Would love to hear what has been making your world spin…
The sad news of Levon Helm’s passing today has got me even more fired up about Record Store Day tomorrow. Tonight, I will be reliving (and reloving) the Last Waltz and some clips from his Midnight Rambles and then in the morning, I will be dancing on down to TITLE to get my hands on some sweet, sweet vinyl. Some of the Record Store Day Specials include:
Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s ‘Blackboard Jungle Dub: 3×10″ Coloured Vinyl
Tomahawk’s ‘Eponymous to Anonymous’ 3LP from Ipecac
PiL’ ‘’One Drop’ 12″
LPs of the Rough Guides to Psychedelic Africa and New Orleans both on 180grm + download card
TITLE is also boasting 20% OFF VINYL, 20% OFF MUSIC BOOK TITLES, $10 LPs, $10 CDs, + 20% OFF MUSIC DVDS.
So wherever you are in this big country, head on out to your local independent and celebrate the joy of music.
Long live physical media!
For now, let me leave you with a little Levon…
So what better way to celebrate than heading down to your local and splashing out on some new music… If you are in Brisbane, try Rocking Horse Records (245 Albert St, Brisbane), where there will be live music from local legend, Ben Salter (he is on at 1:30pm) + many others; or head to the mighty fine TITLE (60 James St, Fortitude Valley) as they are celebrating by knocking 20% off everything in store.
For more details, head to the Record Store Day website. If you need some encouragement, here’s a couple of clips to send you on your way…
The first is New Vagabond by former Bluebottle Kiss frontman, Jamie Hutchings, from his new album, Avalon Cassettes:
And I couldn’t resist posting this clip of The Church live on their Past, Perfect, Future Tour, playing the sublime Anchorage from their 2009 LP, Untitled #23:
Both albums would make a fine addition to your collection…
