Mark Kozelek Paints Brisbane Red

The other major calendar event this week, is Mark Kozelek live at The Black Bear Lodge. Kozelek is touring on the release of his fifth album under the moniker of Sun Kil Moon, Among the Leaves, recorded almost entirely on nylon stringed guitar. It is an album that showcases the playful side of the man who is credited with recording one of the slowest, mopiest self revelations ever put to tape (Rolling Stone Magazine on Red House Painter’s album, Rollercoaster). On Among the Leaves, Kozelek is at his self-deprecating best. You just need to read some of the song titles to feel the razor of his wit.

Here’s three that pack a wallop:

I Know It’s Pathetic But That Was The Greatest Night Of My Life

The Moderately Talented Yet Attractive Young Woman vs The Exceptionally Talented Yet Not So Attractive Middle Aged Man

Not Much Rhymes With Everything’s Awesome All The Time

So roll on Thursday I say… it will be my first live experience with Kozelek, but after watching countless videos, I am high with anticipation. Here’s a couple of tracks to sing you off into the wilds of your Monday night.
