Rainbow Lorikeet

on a branch of budding wattle
the yellow of November
hangs on

two lorikeets preen
green and red
feathers from
neck
and back

drop them lovingly
to the wind that comes
in
its afternoon way

gathering colour
for the vastness
of sky

  1. Very much enjoying your bird series Graham.

  2. The lines “gathering colour for the rafters of sky” just a brilliant way of presenting it.

  3. oh graham this is just beautiful…love your bird poems..

  4. They are so gorgeous – preening each other, carefully turn taking and observing each other closely (bit like marriage – haha) – your poem is delightful, particularly the ending, as Charles has noted.
