A Poetry Competition with a Difference: The QLD Country Comfort Hour

The QLD Music Festival is about to roll into town and across the state. As always their program is bursting with must-see events, one of which is the QLD Country Comfort Hour hosted by Brian Nankervis and the Country Comfort Orkestra (aka the RocKwiz team) with special guest appearances by the always delightful Julia Zemiro.

Each show will be presented in the format of an old-style variety radio show, complete with musical guests, phone-in segments, storytelling, ‘neo-vintage’ radio jingles and a serialised cliff-hanger radio play written by one of Queensland’s favourite sons, Hugh Lunn. And best of all, they are running a poetry competition with the winning poem, read live on stage by Brian Nankervis and broadcast on ABC Local Radio. I mean, who wouldn’t want their poem read by Brian Nankervis (aka Raymond J. Bartholomew). His performance of Days by the Ocean back in 1986, is still well etched in my memory.

Entries must be between 150-250 words and be based on the theme, “WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT THE SUNSHINE STATE?” So come on, put a little light in your pen and let the words flow…

Entries can be emailed to poetry@qmf.org.au

Full details of the competition can be found here.

  1. The QMF sounds great (love Julia Zamiro). Thanks for the info – I suspect a funny poem is in order.
