It’s been a long time between drinks, but Nick Cave is about to release his second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro. Fittingly, the book will also be released unabridged in audio format (complete with soundtrack by Cave and long time collaborator Warren Ellis) both as download and a deluxe box set.
Irvine Welsh has this to say about it:
‘Put Cormac McCarthy, Franz Kafka and Benny Hill together in a Brighton seaside guesthouse and they might just come up with Bunny Munro. A compulsive read possessing all Nick Cave’s trademark horror and humanity, often thinly disguised in a galloping, playful romp.’
Excited yet?
Well if you answered yes, check out the website: The Death of Bunny Munro
It is brimming with great stuff… The Audio Books page has Cave reading Chapter 1 and there are videos of Cave reading excerpts from various chapters.
The book is scheduled for an August release in Australia through Text Publishing. Can’t wait!

Questions – If it wasn’t written by Nick Cave would it get published? Is that question relevant? Why will it get brilliant reviews from everywhere? Was that lurid cover necessary? Should he shave off that ludicrously ugly moustache? Why will it cost twice as much in Australia as everywhere else?

The question of celebrity is important, but in this case, I firmly believe Cave has built his career from the ground up and has earned his respect as an artist. Why will it get brilliant reviews? Well Paul, you know my opinion of reviews… I find the sample chapters on the website far more enticing. Was that lurid cover necessary? I think that question is the one that really begs asking. I think we all agree, that while you may not be able to judge a book by its cover (the quality of the writing that is), it is something we all do. Book design is all about grabbing the attention of the buyer in the blur of colour that is most book stores. I think that this will do just that. Is the image congruent with the content… well can’t comment as I have not read the book yet. Is the image congruent with Cave? Well, he has never been one to shy away from the lurid, so I think on that level, it works. The moustache… well, I can’t grow one that is half as good so I won’t pass judgement. The issue of cost… now that is a long story and one that I must get my teeth into soon.

LOVE the cover of this. Covers are so important these days and as they say in advertising, sex sells. especially dead sex. Hordes of necrophiliacs will purchase this book. and i’m sure nick cave would be happy to sell his book to them.
